October 2024: New Writers Retreat! We're Going to Park City, Utah π¦
Join us from June 2-5, 2025, as we indulge in a splendid writer's retreat in the mountains with wildlife photographer Amy Eskind.
Dear Writers,
Shana tova! Wishing a happy and healthy New Year, to all who observe. Praying for peace, peace and more peace, here and everywhere.
Weβre writing to tell you about a writing retreat weβre running in Park City, Utah, June 2-5, 2025. (The photo of the elk above was taken from our workshop location!) This is the fourth writing retreat Iβve run and the first Iβve done with my great friend, Amy Eskind. Amy and I met in fourth grade when we were short, scrappy girls in suburban New Jersey. After college, we both became writersβAmy wrote for People and became a features correspondent for NPR. She recently authored a new book, Vote! A Guide for Young Adults, and is writing op-eds for newspapers around the country as she covers voter turnout among young adults. Amy and I are both storytellersβAmy captures the truth in photos and prose, I try to unearth the truth in fiction and creative nonfiction. Amy came on the writing retreat I ran in Morocco and we are thrilled to be running this Park City retreat together.
Why are writing retreats important?
Recharge: Retreats are where you go to drill down on your work and recharge as a writer.
Revel in Creativity: Retreats allow you to revel in a project that takes up space in your mind, which you might not be making time for in your day-to-day.
Find Community: Retreats allow you to connect with other writers. Weβll spend three hours every day in writing workshops, and have lunch and dinner together. (Weβll be hiking and snacking too.) By the end of the week, we guarantee you will have forged connections with writers with whom you can trade work after the retreat ends.
Explore with Curiosity: Retreats allow you to explore βwhat ifs?β What if I approached the story this way? What if I wrote from another characterβs point of view? What if I interviewed my grandfatherβs estranged brother? What if I tried to understand why my oldest friend ended our friendship? What if I tried to make the theme of βloss and renewalβ a thread in these stories? What if I wrote this section of the novel in the second person? What if I wrote this short story from the point of view of my dead aunt? What if I took facts from the shipβs manifest that my great-grandmother sailed to Ellis Island on, and turned them into fiction?
Donβt forget about Joy: Retreats are fun! We will eat well, hike well, and enjoy the gorgeous mountains, lush foliage, low humidity and dry mountain air endemic to Park City, Utah.
All the details are below. Read what other writers said about our retreats to Morocco, New Hampshire and the Jersey Shore.
Join award-winning writer Laura Zinn Fromm and professional photographer and longtime journalist Amy Eskind for a four-day writing and cell phone photography retreat in Park City, Utah. Weβll retreat for 4 days and 3 nights, Monday, June 2-Thursday, June 5, 2025.

Weβll meet for three, 3-hour writing workshops, every morning, Monday-Wednesday.

Writers can sign up for one half-hour, one-on-one conference with Laura.
Activities π·
Amy will host one 2-hour cell phone photography workshop and teach you how to take better cell phone pictures, using her signature βprecious diamond photosβ method, which relies on color, cut, clarity, and carat to take and edit gorgeous cell phone photos.
